What an epic final day to an extremely impressive tournament and congratulations Jin Young Ko! Holding a two shot lead overnight, Ko got off to a shaky start with two early bogeys and trailed Sung Hyun Park by one, after seven holes.
Park looked like she was on her way to claim a very popular victory, using her power of tee to her advantage early on. However, her putter was as cold as it has ever been in recent memory and in the end proved to be the costly club. Her fast start faded and two late bogeys handed a comfortable victory to Ko.
In Gee Chun once again came up short and had to settle for third place. She never really threatened the lead and seemed to lack that fighting spirit at decisive moments. Laying up from the middle of the fairway on the par 5 7th when two shots back, portrayed a lack of desire to attack the course. Chun needs to be more aggressive in these situations or she will remain the bridesmaids for much longer.
The day belonged to Jin Young Ko. Now we will have to wait and see if she makes the move to the LPGA Tour. Ko has come a long way since withdrawing from the Korea Women’s Open a few months ago. She will go a lot further, and it seems inevitable that the LPGA Tour is going to be her next move.
Ko not only won the coveted title, she also produced a memorable quote in her post round interview. Looks like she has the greatest supporter of them all!
Over 31,000 fans attended the final day, yet the LPGA Tour continue to ignore appeals to make this a Major. Hopefully common sense will prevail soon…
