JGTO: 21 Koreans Set For The Honma World Cup

Although 2015 champion Kyoung Hoon Lee will not be playing this week, there is a strong possibility that one of his fellow countrymen could be lifting the trophy and wearing that ‘lovely’ plaid jacket at this week’s Honma Tour World Cup in Japan.

The tournament has relocated to Kyowa Country Club, which is not your typical Japanese course. It is wide open for the most part, with some very tricky greens. You would be forgiven for thinking it is a Korean course, more specifically it’s quite similar to Namseoul C.C. Everyone knows what that place is like…Junggon Hwang finished T-3rd last year, and must be oozing with confidence at the moment knowing that he will be teeing it up at the PGA Tour CJ Cup in two weeks. The current KPGA Championship could be the one to watch out for this week, especially with last year’s runner up Younghan Song playing in Taiwan on the Asian Tour.

Hyung Sung Kim looked like he was on his way to victory at last week’s Top Tokai Cup Classic, but had to settle for third spot, due to a late collapse. Kim finished T-12th in this tournament last year, so it’s very possible that he will contend again this week.

Keep an eye on Sung Jae Im too, Mr. Consistent is due a victory in the near future…the 20 year old has been the top performing Korean in Japan this year, arguably…
