JGTO: Silly 16th Hole Costs Hyung Sung Kim Victory
Holding a three shot lead, with four to play, Hyung Sung Kim looked to be well on his way to winning his second Top Tokai Cup Classic in three attempts, but as everyone knows, there are no certainties in golf.
Kim failed to birdie the par 5 15th, while playing partner Satoshi Kodaira holed a long range putt to get within two of Kim.
Then came the controversial par 3 16th hole. Well not so much controversial than it is stupid…On Saturday, Seungsu Han racked up 11 shots on the hole, one which you should never go left on. Kim did, and it cost him a triple bogey six and in the end the tournament.
Younghan Song produced the round of the day (-6) to finish T-18th and keep up his consistent record of performances.
Next up is the Honma Tour World Cup, just down the road from this week’s venue.
