In a dramatic final day at the High One Resort Ladies Open, the eventual climax left the spectators in near complete silence.
Numerous players battled for the lead throughout the day, but it eventually came down to a playoff decider between Ha Na Jang and Jeong Eun Lee.
After a wayward second shot by Lee, which left her in the deep rough, it was advantage Jang, who was just short of the green, with what seemed a much easier shot. Lee chipped to 20 feet, while Jang putted from the fringe to 5 feet. It looked like Jang had one hand on the trophy.
Lee, who has won twice already this season and also suffered a play-off loss, was determined not to let this happen again. She sunk her putt and piled the pressure back onto Jang, whose putt seemed to be all but a formality.
It wasn’t, Jang missed, the crowd were stunned into silence. Jang was clearly distraught, Lee also looked shocked, but obviously pleased to complete a hat-trick of victories this season.
This loss will be a tough one to take for Jang, who clearly wears her heart on her sleeve when on the golf course. She was pumped up throughout the day, but fell just shy of her first KLPGA victory since returning to the Tour on a full time basis. Jang will be in contention again soon and she will win.
