Last week, Dongseop Maeng celebrated his 30th birthday, but it’s safe to say that this week’s celebrations will be even more extravagant, after he cruised to his maiden KPGA Tour victory.
The relatively unknown KPGA player produced the best golf of his career to claim an unexpected win at the 13th Dongbu Promi Insurance Open at Dayou Montvert CC, an hour north of Seoul.
The world number 1510 has not really featured on top of KPGA leaderboards recently, apart from his T-9th finish at last years KPGA Championship.
Prior to that in 2014, Maeng claimed his best finish on the KPGA Tour- tied second at the Vainer Pineridge Open.
This was his first KPGA Tour event since last September, a unwanted wait he will not have to endure anymore as a Tour winner.
Second place went to Ilhwan Park, who will have fond memories of the week, after his hole in one on Saturday. Third place went to Eunshin Park.
Next week for the KPGA Tour is the first of a series of Caido Korea sponsored events at Muan CC, near the south west coast of Korea.
First up, I suppose I better say hello and thank you for visiting my website, whoever you are. I teach, I write, I caddy, I write, I travel, I write. Mostly, about golf if that interests you. Usually interviews for various publications and blog about my caddy adventures.
