Hawaii hosts its second PGA Tour event in as many weeks, after Justin Thomas impressivd victory at last week’s SBS Tournament of Champions, in Honolulu. This week the Sony Open will contain a full field of PGA Tour players and invitees, including seven Koreans.
KJ Choi undoubtedly has some great memories from playing in this event at Waialae C.C., but none better than in 2008, when he completed a very impressive wire-to-wire victory in testing conditions. There’s no doubt that the almost imminent strong winds will be a factor again this week.
As well as KJ, six more Koreans will be hoping for a good showing this week: YE Yang, Seung Yul Noh, Siwoo Kim (*withdrew on Wednesday), Hyung Sung Kim, Meen Whee Kim and Sung Kang all have the potential to be in contention on Sunday afternoon.
Whatever the outcome this week, the venue will continue to be regarded as one of the best on the PGA Tour schedule.
